THINGS WERE DIFFERENT IN THE CHURCH JESUS STARTED We sing songs to Jesus. We pray to Jesus. But do we really know and understand what Jesus preached? Before you say, “Yes,” and move on, consider these shocking facts: • Most messages preached today have nothing to do with Jesus’ core message • Christian universities that train pastors, missionaries, and priests don’t have courses that teach what Jesus taught, and it’s been this way for hundreds of years • The majority of believers in Christ have little or no understanding of what Jesus said or what He meant when He said it God is realigning His church with the message Jesus preached, and He’s doing it to prepare us for Jesus’ return. Get ready for a journey through the Bible that will help you: • Challenge your Christian experience and knowledge of Jesus’ teachings • Learn the true heart of Christ’s teachings as recorded in God’s Word • Discover the Kingdom life Jesus provided for, exemplified, and taught • Shed any belief barriers that have inhibited your spiritual life to this point • Embrace and renew a walk with God that is alive, growing, fresh, and purposeful

What is the point of preaching? With so many agendas competing for pulpit time these days, it can be easy to forget the exact purpose of our Christian calling: to proclaim God's salvation through Jesus who died and is now resurrected. Preaching Evangelistically looks at the different elements of gospel preaching and how they are best used to effectively proclaim Jesus. They include: sermon setting, text selection, preparation, preaching with biblical authority, giving an invitation, and "hiding behind the cross as you preach." Also here are eyes-on text examples of evangelistic sermons from selected preachers. Cowriter Al Fasol states, "The purpose of our book is to provide information on preaching evangelistically with integrity, with biblical accuracy, with appeal to contemporary listeners, and absolutely for the glory of God." - Back cover.

The Forgotten Message

Could the Most Important Message Be the Forgotten Message?

I was preparing to go out to minister in one of the towns in the Coastal Province part of Kenya, called Voi. My hosts, Home Alive church pastored by Pastor Christopher Obialor and his wife Chrisitine, once again had invited me to be a blessing to the Body of Christ. I have visited this church before and they have been great hosts to me. My friendship with the leaders and members of this congregation has grown with my last two visits. The trip to Voi was made earlier this year during my short visit to Kenya for a brief vacation and to spend time with my family members who live in Kenya. I was in Voi during the earlier part of the year for three days. During my time of prayer in my hotel room, I asked the Holy Spirit what message He had for the Body of Christ in Voi. I never step out to minister anywhere I have been invited to without first seeking God's direction. Why? Because these are God's people not my people. He knows what everybody is going through in their own personal lives and I don't. And He has a solution to their problems. And I hate going before God's people to share with them what I think God is saying to them without spending time and hearing from Him. You really cannot give what you don't have. That's another topic we have to deal with later. The impression in my spirit as I lay prostrate before God in that hotel room was very clear as the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart. He said, "Go and teach and preach the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. That is the message that Jesus taught and preached. That is the forgotten message that My church is not teaching and preaching today." That was it! I got my marching orders and instructions from God and I immediately knew that this message, 'The Gospel of the Kingdom of God' message is the forgotten message that the Church today is not teaching and preaching. The Holy Spirit continued speaking to my heart: "If the church wants to have the same results that Jesus got when He ministered on earth, then the church must teach and preach the same message He taught and preached."Should I shout here, "Wow" or "Boom! "to that powerful Word from the throne of grace? I got my Bible ready and started preparing for these meetings in Voi. I had my divine instructions from the Lord and that is all I needed from Him. My part was to obey and deliver the message He wanted me to deliver to His people. This book is about this forgotten message and why it is imperative for the church of Jesus Christ today to go back to what I may call the real basics; back to teaching and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom of God message and not the religious trash we have been teaching and preaching today. Why is this message so important to God? Are there other gospels that are being taught and preached out there? Let us take this journey together, dig deep into scriptures and find out what the Holy Spirit says about this message. This to me is the most important and forgotten message that the Church needs to return back to. I believe your life will be impacted by this message in a powerful way just as my life was and is as I continue to study and meditate on the Message of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. My prayer for you is that you will experience the Kingdom of heaven lifestyle in your own personal life as you read this book. Get ready for the journey of your life. Gideon M. MwololoAuthor.

Preaching as the Word of God

Answering an Old Question with Speech-Act Theory

According to the Reformers, preaching is the word of God. As the word of God, preaching is a foundation for the church. It is also vital for the personal growth of a Christian. But Christians are poorly equipped to understand how preaching is the word of God. Some Christians look for preaching that closely reproduces the text in the Bible. Other Christians look for preaching that creates maximal emotional and existential impact. And there is a lot of name-calling with Christians accusing preachers of "not preaching the word." But what type of preaching is the word of God? The purpose of this book is to equip Christians to understand how preaching can be God speaking. It accomplishes this with a survey of the problem in the history of the church, a detailed overview of key biblical texts, and finally the application of the contemporary philosophical tool of speech act theory.

It is my desire, through the writing of The Gospel We Preach, to bring an exposition of the different aspects and truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Preaching may take many different forms, whether from the church pulpit or in more relaxed environments in coffee bars or small groups. Water can come in various containers, but it is still water! The Gospel can be presented in various ways, but it must still be the Gospel that eventually leads to genuine repentance to life. It is a love story of God seeking to bring a lost world back into relationship with Himself. It is a plan that called for the greatest sacrifice the universe has ever seen. It is the Gospel of God's grace and love that offers every living soul the opportunity to step out of spiritual darkness and death into the abundant life of Christ. This book will take you on a journey through the great truths of salvation that every believer needs to understand. To become a disciple and fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ, it is vitally important to understand who we are in Christ and how this new life He offers really transforms. The Gospel We Preach can be given to those who may not as yet come to faith in Christ, and it will be a great resource for all believers, whether new to the faith or have been serving God for many years. For those who aspire to become preachers and those who have perhaps been serving the Lord in ministry for many years, my prayer is that this book will inspire you to preach the Gospel with all its amazing love, passion, and power. The book is illustrated with some personal testimony and some amusing incidents. May you be blessed as you read The Gospel We Preach.
