This volume contains the ?nal proceedings of the 7th International Andrei Ershov Memorial Conference on Perspectives of System Informatics Akad- gorodok (Novosibirsk, Russia), June 15–19, 2009. PSI is a forum for academic and industrial researchers, developers and users working on topics relating to computer, software and information sciences. The conference serves to bridge the gaps between di?erent communities whose - searchareasarecoveredbybutnotlimitedtofoundationsofprogramandsystem development and analysis, programming methodology and softwareengineering, and information technologies. PSI 2009 was dedicated to the memory of a prominent scientist, academician Andrei Ershov (1931–1988),and to a signi?cant date in the history of computer science in the country, namely, the 50th anniversary of the Programming - partment founded by Andrei Ershov. Initially, the department was a part of the Institute of Mathematics and later, in 1964, it joined the newly established Computing Center of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Andrei Ershov, who was responsible for forming the department, gathered a team of young graduates from leading Soviet universities. The ?rst signi?cant project of the department was aimed at the development of ALPHA system, an optimizing compiler for an extension of Algol 60 implemented on a Soviet c- puterM-20. Later, theresearchersofthedepartmentcreatedtheAlgibr,Epsilon, Sigma, and Alpha-6 programming systems for the BESM-6 computers. The list of their achievements also includes the ?rst Soviet time-sharing system AIST-0, the multi-language system BETA, research projects in arti?cial intelligence and parallel programming, integrated tools for text processing and publishing, and many others.

This book focuses on several issues in the essence of information systems and their development, as well as advanced utilization of new information technology. It includes both theoretical foundations and practical approaches for each topic and will prove useful both to scientists in the field of information system science and to practitioners in information systems development and use. Many of the topics treated here have not appeared in the literature, although they are becoming increasingly important in the development of information systems. Topics covered include: contingencies in IT decision making; intelligent executive information systems; dynamic performance evaluation of information systems; exception handling in information systems, metamethodology of information system development and mobile computing. The outstanding feature of the book is its specific mixture of subjects under one framework of thinking about information systems. A useful book to researchers and systems developers, the book can also form the basis of an advanced course in information systems development.

International Perspectives in Health Informatics

Health information systems are now widely used around the world to raise the quality of healthcare, reduce medical error rates and improve access to health information and services, and health informatics is now recognized as a separate and unique area of disciplinary study and professional practice. This book presents the proceedings of the 2011 Information Technology and Communications in Health (ITCH) conference, in Victoria, BC, Canada in February 2011. Health informatics issues are not unique to one country or one organization and with its theme of International Perspectives, this conference provides a unique opportunity to share the lessons learned by both developed and developing countries. Effective use of scarce healthcare resources, ensuring the long-term sustainability of healthcare systems and moving the science of health informatics forward are discussed, and the conference also addresses key issues at the intersection of technology and healthcare such as; privacy, ethics, patient safety, efficiency and effectiveness, which are common to healthcare providers worldwide. The improvement of healthcare systems which employ health informatics technology is dependent upon such international exchanges and solution-sharing, and this book will be of interest to all those involved in providing better healthcare worldwide.

This volume contains the proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Tools and Algorithms for the Construction and Analysis of Systems (TACAS 2004). TACAS 2004 took place in Barcelona, Spain, from March 29th to April 2nd, as part of the 7th European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software (ETAPS 2004), whose aims, organization, and history are detailed in a foreword by the ETAPS Steering Committee Chair, Jos ́ e Luiz Fiadeiro. TACAS is a forum for researchers, developers, and users interested in ri- rously based tools for the construction and analysis of systems. The conference serves to bridge the gaps between di?erent communities including, but not - mited to, those devoted to formal methods, software and hardware veri?cation, static analysis, programming languages, software engineering, real-time systems, and communication protocols that share common interests in, and techniques for, tool development. In particular, by providing a venue for the discussion of common problems, heuristics, algorithms, data structures, and methodologies, TACAS aims to support researchers in their quest to improve the utility, rel- bility, ?exibility, and e?ciency of tools for building systems. Design and Development of Web Information Systems

This book describes the research of the authors over more than a decade on an end-to-end methodology for the design and development of Web Information Systems (WIS). It covers syntactics, semantics and pragmatics of WIS, introduces sophisticated concepts for conceptual modelling, provides integrated foundations for all these concepts and integrates them into the co-design method for systematic WIS development. WIS, i.e. data-intensive information systems that are realized in a way that arbitrary users can access them via web browsers, constitute a prominent class of information systems, for which acceptance by its a priori unknown users in varying contexts with respect to the presented content, the ease of functionality provided and the attraction of the layout adds novel challenges for modelling, design and development. This book is structured into four parts. Part I, Web Information Systems – General Aspects, gives a general introduction to WIS describing the challenges for their development, and provides a characterization by six decisive aspects: intention, usage, content, functionality, context and presentation. Part II, High-Level WIS Design – Strategic Analysis and Usage Modelling with Storyboarding, introduces methods for high-level design of WIS covering strategic aspects and the storyboarding method, which is discussed from syntactic, semantic and pragmatic perspectives. Part III, Conceptual WIS Design – Rigorous Modelling of Web Information Systems and their Layout with Web Interaction Types and Screenography, continues with conceptual design of WIS including layout and playout. This introduces the decisive web interaction types, the screenography method and adaptation aspects. The final Part IV, Rationale of the Co-Design Methodology and Systematic Development of Web Information Systems, describes the co-design method for WIS development and its application for the systematic engineering of systems. The book addresses the research community, and at the same time can be used for education of graduate students and as methodological support for professional WIS developers. For the WIS research community it provides methods for WIS modelling on all levels of abstraction including theoretical foundations and inference mechanisms as well as a sophisticated end-to-end methodology for systematic WIS engineering from requirements elicitation over conceptual modelling to aspects of implementation, layout and playout. For students and professional developers the book can be used as a whole for educational courses on WIS design and development, as well as for more specific courses on conceptual modelling of WIS, WIS foundations and reasoning, co-design and WIS engineering or WIS layout and playout development.
