Frenziedly he charges after them... Scorpio Drums is the forty-second book in the epic fifty-two book saga of Dray Prescot of Earth and of Kregen by Kenneth Bulmer, writing as Alan Burt Akers. The series continues with Scorpio Triumph.
Praised by Stephen Baxter and Adam Roberts, reviewed ecstatically by SFX magazine, Gavin Smith's first novel VETERAN announced an exciting new voice on the SF scene. WAR IN HEAVEN, set in the same universe, followed. Now comes a new standalone SF thriller. Of all the captains based out of Arclight only Eldon Sloper was desperate enough to agree to a salvage job in Red Space. And now he and his crew are living to regret his desperation. In Red Space the rules are different. Some things work, others don't. Best to stick close to the Church beacons. Don't get lost. Because there's something wrong about Red Space. Something beyond rational. Something vampyric... Long after The Loss, mankind is different. We touch the world via neunonics. We are machines, we are animals, we are hybrids. But some things never change. A Killer is paid to kill, a Thief will steal countless lives. A Clone will find insanity, an Innocent a new horror. The Church knows we have kept our sins. Gavin Smith's new SF novel is an epic slam-bang ride through a terrifyingly different future.
Somewhere in the unmapped regions of Kregen, beneath the two suns of Antares, alpha star of the Constellation Scorpio, lies the hidden city of the Savanti. The Savanti were the ones responsible for tearing Dray Prescot away from his native Earth for their struggle against the Star Lords. And Dray had long sought the locale of his original landing because it would help solve the mystery of his transition. Now the time had come when the search must be completed without delay, for the father of his beloved Delia was a victim of assassins, and only the Savanti could undo the evil that could shatter all that Dray held dear in his second planetary homeland. Savage Scorpio is the thrilling novel of a mission that would involve powerful forces far beyond all Prescot's personal desires.
Dray Prescot, Earthman of Kregen, that wonderful world circling the twin suns of Antares, had risen high in the empire of Vallia, but luck could not always sustain him. When, at last, all the forces opposed to his lands, his princess, his emperor, and to him personally, converged, it was to produce the darkest hour of his long career. For treason struck at the court, while rebel armies marched from the backlands, the war fleets of enemy nations were aloft, and the uncanny wizardry of a master scientist launched a spell of doom for all Prescot held dear. With his back to the wall, Dray Prescot faced that time of peril with unflinching will... until the cruelest blow of all was struck: his warrior daughter Dayra rode in the vanguard of his foes!
Down in the southern half of the continent of Loh, in an isolated desert land where the belief in reincarnation as a punishment is firmly accepted, Prescot and his new comrade battle intrigue and assassins and attempt to follow the desires of the Star Lords. This new kregoinya is Mevancy nal Chardaz, a most spirited lady who means to keep Prescot thoroughly in his place. Not completely sure if the guardian Tuong Mishuro is the man the Star Lords wished protected, Prescot and the guards have been hoodwinked. Prescot races to Mishuro's assistance, to arrive too late. Thus continues the tale begun in "Scorpio Reborn,"
Karl, the confused 'little Jewish Nazi in a large flat cap' is riven by the terrors of his past: he saw Vienna burning, limbs stuck in trees, the muzzle flashes of submachine guns. Later, in Australia, he stood immobile while mental-hospital attendants lifted screaming patients from their beds by the balls.
The title is just the beginning. This is a comically satirical story of a group of Scorpio boys and men, ages sixteen to thirty. These men for various; emotional, sexual and romantic problems are taking the anti-depressant Prozac or 'zac' as they call it. Our main character Josh Eversmen has just turned thirty. His wife a LAPD officer, has left him. He has just lost the job he loved more than life-its-self, to his boss's lesbian lover. And he has moved back home into his childhood bedroom which is now his mother's sewing room. His mother, who is concerned about his depression and mood swings gives him as a birthday present an appointment to see a therapist. The story follows Josh in one-side of the Prozac-world and out the other. While the door is open Josh makes new friends and meets an old friend among the men in a 'group' he joins. One member of the 'group', who is a successful male model has the eating disorder "activity anorexia", one member has Tourette Syndrome, another has a "underwear fetish", one is an "obsessive compulsive" and other members suffer from the "craziness of apparently normal people". By the luck of the draw they are all Scorpios and when they are not stinging each other, or any and everyone they meet... they're stinging themselves. 'Scorpio Men On Prozac' for the most part is howls of laughs, sexy with a grin or a smirk, sometimes dark, but never dull.
Once again in the grip of the Star Lords of the Constellation Scorpio, Dray Prescot finds himself torn from the battles of the Inner Sea for a mission in the air. For it is now his mission to carry his beloved Delia by airboat to that far kingdom, Vallia, from whence she had come. But the route lay across the gaunt mountains and the shadowy jungles of the Hostile Territories -- and there Dray will be plunged among stranger peoples and more fantastic challenges than even his Kregen princess has known. Warrior of Scorpio is the third book in the epic saga of Dray Prescot of Earth and of Kregen.

Slave of the colossus builders or scourge of the Inland Sea? Both roles await Dray Prescot on his return to Kregen. Torn between two contending forces, the Star Lords and the Savanti, Prescot himself wants only to find his beloved, the Princess Delia of the Blue Mountains. But the powers that had drawn him across interstellar space to the world that orbit the red and green suns in the Constellation Scorpio have set him a task, the nature of which even he cannot fully comprehend... Dray Prescot's saga has been aclaimed as the best planetary adventure series since Burroughs stopped writing about Barsoom. The Suns of Scorpio is the second book in the epic saga of Dray Prescot of Earth and of Kregen.
