Twenty-three-year-old Bill Putney enlisted in the Marines in 1943 in search of military glory. Instead, Putney, a licensed veterinarian, was relegated to the Dog Corps. Putney became the Commanding Officer of the 3rd War Dog Platoon, and later the chief veterinarian and C.O. of the War Dog Training School at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. At Lejeune Putney helped train America's dogs for war in the Pacific. He later led them into combat in the invasion of Guam in 1944, the first liberation of American soil in World War II. Always Faithful is the story of the dogs that fought in Guam and across the islands of the Pacific, a celebration of the four-legged soldiers that Putney both commanded and followed. It is a tale of immense courage, but also of incredible sacrifice. On Guam, as on islands such as Iwo Jima and Okinawa, the Japanese were infamously tenacious, refusing to surrender as long as there was a hole left to crawl into. Rooting out the enemy was an awful, painstaking job. To this task, Putney's dogs were well suited. Used for scouting, attack, carrying messages, detecting mines, and also as guards, the war dogs were so well trained that they could locate nonmetallic mines that had been buried for months deep underground; their hearing was so precise they could detect enemy trip wires by listening to them "sing" in the breeze. Their record in action was perfect. More than 550 patrols on the island of Guam were led by dogs; not one patrol was ambushed. But for this success, the dogs, always out in front, paid a terrible price. Although Putney worked feverishly as veterinarian and C.O. to keep the dogs alive, many were lost. After the war, Putney returned home only to discover that the dogs he had served with were being put to sleep. These dogs were ex-household pets, recruited from civilians with the promise that they would someday be returned. Outraged, Putney fought for the dogs' right to go home. He won, and headed the overwhelmingly successful program to "detrain" the dogs so they could return to their families. Alas, quickly learned, the lesson was quickly forgotten. The dogs of Korea and Vietnam did not come home. Then, in the final days of his administration, President Clinton signed into law a bill that allows military handlers to bring home the dogs with which they work. Once again, Putney was at the front of the charge. For anyone who has ever read Old Yeller, or the books of Jack London, here is a real-life story, never before told, that beats any fiction. At once wistful tribute and stirring adventure, Always Faithful describes what may be the greatest man-dog effort of all time. It will both astound and move you.
Having a parent return from military duty is a dream come true. But sometimes, coming home comes with problems. For Rosie, life is nearly perfect. Her behavior spins out of control, causing problems at school, at home, with her boyfriend, and even with law enforcement. Can she face her father and check her anger in time to get her life back on track?
They hunt a killer who will stop at nothing to protect his identity, even if that means threatening the one link between them—their son. When Staff Sergeant Rowan McKinley is charged with murder, she wants the best defense counsel the Marine Corps has to offer—Captain Phillip Stuart. Seeking his help means opening old wounds. It's a risk she must take to save herself. Phillip swore he'd never have anything to do with the one woman who had not only broken his heart but had crushed it. Helping her was personal suicide. But professionally, it could be the coup de grace of his career—that next rung on the ladder, the next challenge he was looking for. The love and passion each thought gone sparks to life—only now it is forbidden by military law. Knowing the rules and adhering to them are very different matters. But who should make the sacrifice when both are destined to soar to the top of their ranks? The choice might be taken from their hands. There is a killer with just as much to lose who will stop at nothing to protect his identity, even if that means threatening the one link between Phillip and Rowan—the son Phillip never knew he had.
A must read for anyone who has ever experienced trauma in their life. A compelling story that will make you laugh, make you cry, but most of all make you "think". Lynda Suarez Augusta, Ga. The experiences in this book reflect the feelings of hopelessness and attempts at helpfulness that end up as helplessness many times over a period of years surrounding a rape victim and her family. They are put forth as a warning of the hurdles that must be overcome, and a guide to parents who have had their lives changed through their daughters' lives as a result of rape. All who are concerned with the care and rehabilitation of rape victims need to read the accounts in this book so they can be aware of the power of love and faith in attending to the victim's needs, and to the slow, very slow, breakdown of the walls that the rape victim throws up after the event. The reader becomes aware of the eventual healing that happens over many years of love and support, bringing the victim back into some semblance of normalcy. This is an important book which should be required reading for medical personnel to help them be aware of the inconsistencies between the "medical tests"and victim statements, and let them be a part of the professional therapeutic team that helps the victims and families of rape understand what to expect, not only immediately after the trauma, but in the long term also. Established in 1986, the U.S. Special Operations Command was set up to bring the special operational disciplines of all branches of the military under a single, unified command to act on missions involving unconventional warfare, special reconnaissance, foreign internal defense, and direct action… The Marine Special Operations Command (“MARSOC”) is the newest component of the military’s shift toward a fully integrated Special Operations Command structure. At first, the Marines were strongly against any Marines serving under anyone other than another Marine. Then 9/11 happened. In the years following, Marine forces found themselves growing more agreeable to inter-branch operational command, finally forming the Marine Special Operations Command in 2006. Always Faithful, Always Forward follows the journey of a class of Marine candidates from their recruitment, through assessment and selection, to their qualification as Marines Special Operators. The assessment, selection, and training regimes are a combination of psychological testing and intense military training as well as being a physical and professional rite of passage. MARSOC Marines must be efficient, agile, independent, and prepared to live hard in the field. They are warriors trained in the full range of military skills, as well as teachers who can train locals to defend their communities and lead them in battle. But above all, they are Marines. Their ability to leverage their numbers by embedding with the locals and to live in remote locations has, in their short history, made them a valuable force and one with great utility in remote reaches of the world. Retired Navy Captain Dick Couch has been given unprecedented access to this new command and to the individual Marines of this exceptional special-operations unit, allowing him to chronicle the history and development of the Marine Special Operations Command and how they find, recruit, and train their special operators. Race, Loyalty, and the Ends of Empire in Spanish Cuba
Author: David Sartorius
Publisher: Duke University Press
Known for much of the nineteenth century as "the ever-faithful isle," Cuba did not earn its independence from Spain until 1898, long after most American colonies had achieved emancipation from European rule. In this groundbreaking history, David Sartorius explores the relationship between political allegiance and race in nineteenth-century Cuba. Challenging assumptions that loyalty to the Spanish empire was the exclusive province of the white Cuban elite, he examines the free and enslaved people of African descent who actively supported colonialism. By claiming loyalty, many black and mulatto Cubans attained some degree of social mobility, legal freedom, and political inclusion in a world where hierarchy and inequality were the fundamental lineaments of colonial subjectivity. Sartorius explores Cuba's battlefields, plantations, and meeting halls to consider the goals and limits of loyalty. In the process, he makes a bold call for fresh perspectives on imperial ideologies of race and on the rich political history of the African diaspora.

A Biblical View of Final Things and Present Responsibilities
Author: Barry L. Callen
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
Barry Callen is a ""church theologian"" in the finest sense. In this book he once again brings the commitments nurtured by Pietist, Anabaptist, and Wesleyan theological streams into conversation with the issues and debates in contemporary church life and with the most formative voices in contemporary theology. The result is a convincing reminder that Christian teachings about ""ultimate things"" (eschatology) are much more concerned with providing hope and direction for living faithfully in our present settings than they are with providing timetables for the future. His exposition of the role of the church and sacrament in nurturing such hope is particularly helpful. Randy L. Maddox, Professor of Wesleyan and Methodist Studies, Duke University Divinity School In a day when fanciful end-times speculations abound, the church does well to give heed to voices that call us back to the fundamentals of biblical eschatology. Barry Callen is such a voice. As he so forcefully declares, rather than focusing on dates and times, God calls us to be ""faithful in the meantime."" Stanley J. Grenz, Professor Emeritus of Theology, Ethics, Baptist Heritage, Carey Theological College and Regent College The doctrine of last things is important because faith would be empty if it could not hope for the coming of the kingdom of God. What we have in eschatology are not so much secrets about the future as images of God's final purposes which are meant to impact our every action and judgment. Here we have, thanks to Barry Callen, a responsible, informed, interesting, and up-to-date account of our blessed hope. Clark H. Pinnock, Professor Emeritus of Theology, McMaster Divinity College Barry L. Callen is University Professor and Vice President of Academic Affairs Emeritus, Anderson University, Editor of Aldersgate Press, author of Radical Christianity (1999), Approaching Theology (2015), Heart of the Matter (2016), and Bible Stories for Strong Stomachs (2017).

Illegitimacy If One Is Tempted to Stray… But I Think He Is Also Being Unfaithful… We are Growing Apart… Is My Marriage Going Sour? At Least She Does Not Nag… Some Old-Fashioned Reminiscences Desperately Hanging onto Your Man… Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction We were just talking generally, when a friend of mine told me that she did not mind her husband straying occasionally as long as he came back to his wife and kids at the end of the day. I was horrified and shocked. Here was a sensible, intelligent, woman who was condoning marital infidelity, by saying overtly, men will be men, and marital infidelity is acceptable. This book is for all those people who believe that marital infidelity in any form is unacceptable, socially, traditionally, religiously, psychologically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. In every marriage ceremony, in any religion, coming down through the ages, two people are joined together, as husband and wife. In many marriage ceremonies, it is always said that you have to be faithful to one another, and under no option do you stray. But in many ancient civilizations and societies, wives accepted the fact that their men would stray, even though they were married, because that was the nature of the man.
Landry Phillips and Madeline Ponder were lifelong best friends. They had seen each other through every day of their young lives, until Landry joined the Marines and was deployed to Afghanistan. Madeline waited, and worried, until the one late night phone call she had prayed she would never receive. In that one instant their lives changed forever. Could Madeline help Landry find his way through the darkness that threatened to swallow him whole? Or would he be lost to her before he realized she had truly been his from the very beginning?
A Guide for Christian Martial Arts Vol. 4: Blue Belt
Author: John Blackman
Publisher: American Christian Defense Alliance, Inc.
Bible Studies for Belts:A Guide for Christian Martial Arts Vol. 4: Blue Belt (Christian Martial Arts Ministry Bible Studies Book 4) Prayer for Blue Belt Students Heavenly Father I thank You and I praise You Lord God for everything that You’re doing, everything that You’ve done, and everything that You will do. Thank You so much for the students who are starting Blue Belt and have had the determination, fortitude, and dedication to continue on in this Martial Arts Ministry. Heavenly Father I pray Lord that Your Spirit washes over them as water and renews their minds, increases their faith, and gives them hope in the midst of a dark world. Father I pray Lord God right now that you would increase their Faith, that you would strengthen their Faith, and that they would continue to take up the Shield of Faith to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. In Jesus name - Amen About this Book: The purpose of this book is to assist those within the American Christian Defense Alliance, Inc. Martial Arts Ministry with a resource to help them better understand the operational framework of the Biblical aspects of our Martial Arts Ministry system and style. In this book we hope to create unity throughout the Christian Martial Arts world by establishing a set standard to utilize while disciplining students in the faith. The ultimate goal for any Christian Martial Arts Ministry should be to disciple brothers and sisters in the Lord. There is such an attack on the fundamental principles of the Word of God in this current time that it’s clear to see if we don’t do something then we will lose everything. Jesus last Commandment was to go and make disciples throughout all of the world. He knew that there was coming a time and day when believers would not walk in sound doctrine. This is why He continually emphasized that we should watch and pray lest anyone deceive us. There is no greater thing that we can do to help change the situations around us that we find less then desirable than to love those around us and make disciples as the Lord commanded us. Some may be asking, how do you make disciples? Well the simple fact is we do have an example in Christ. He spent over three years with His disciples, they ate, slept, traveled, and all work together to support the ministry over that time. The reality is discipleship is a complete immersion into a way of life, in this case the Christian way of life. Martial Arts is merely a tool to enable us to reach those interested in self-defense. We hope that you will join with us and use this book as a reference guide to disciplining believers in the faith. If you are part of the American Christian Defense Alliance Martial Arts Ministry in some way this book is a must have for your Ministry The operational framework of the Biblical concepts and aspects of our Martial Arts Ministry includes a multilayered system approach. Specifically we use a three-tiered system which incorporates what we call, “Colors of the Cross” “Learning through Creation” and “Defending Your Faith”. The three-tiered system approach works in harmony together to help solidify a solid operational framework of Biblical principles covered for each belt level.
