Now in its fourth year, this bi-annual journal gains more and more momentum with each new issue. Dedicated to addressing architectural issues from perspectives stretching across the theoretical spectrum, 306090 gives voice to young, up-and-coming architects, designers, and academics looking to push the envelope of architectural theory. Much of architectural theory and criticism evaluates a project's success based on how it engages the surrounding environment and how it operates formally and aesthetically. But there are other forces at play in architecture. 306090 08: Autonomous Urbanism focuses on how legislation, financing, politics, and other indirect influences affect architectural strategies. How do architects and urbanists generate design methods that are conscious of law, financing, politics, and the market? 306090 08 investigates different design strategies focused on harnessing these forces and utilizing them to a purposeful end.

Unbored is the book every modern child needs. Brilliantly walking the line between cool and constructive, it's crammed with activities that are not only fun and doable but that also get kids standing on their own two feet. If you're a kid, you can: -- Build a tipi or an igloo -- Learn to knit -- Take stuff apart and fix it -- Find out how to be constructively critical -- Film a stop-action movie or edit your own music -- Do parkour like James Bond -- Make a little house for a mouse from lollipop sticks -- Be independent! Catch a bus solo or cook yourself lunch -- Make a fake exhaust for your bike so it sounds like you're revving up a motorcycle -- Design a board game -- Go camping (or glamping) -- Plan a road trip -- Get proactive and support the causes you care about -- Develop your taste and decorate your own room -- Make a rocket from a coke bottle -- Play farting games There are gross facts and fascinating stories, reports on what stuff is like (home schooling, working in an office...), Q&As with inspiring grown-ups, extracts from classic novels, lists of useful resources and best ever lists like the top clean rap songs, stop-motion movies or books about rebellion. Just as kids begin to disappear into their screens, here is a book that encourages them to use those tech skills to be creative, try new things and change the world. And it gets parents to join in. Unbored is fully illustrated, easy to use and appealing to young and old, girl and boy. Parents will be comforted by its anti-perfectionist spirit and humour. Kids will just think it's brilliant.

The Noun in Biblical Armenian

Origin and Word Formation : with Special Emphasis on the Indo-European Heritage

Author: Birgit Anette Olsen

The book offers a comprehensive treatment of Classical Armenian nouns as transmitted in the 5th century Bible translation. Beside a synchronic classification and functional investigation of the individual stem classes, suffixes and nominal compounds, the main stress has been laid on the historical evaluation, in particular in connection with the inherited formational types and isolated, lexicalized relics. The historical-comparative approach to the Armenian material has resulted in a number of new suggestions and modifications of earlier theories, summarized in two sections on the general development of Indo-European into Armenian, one on phonology and one on morphology where an occasional tentative glimpse at the pre-history of the proto-language is ventured. The non-indigenous parts of the vocabulary, mostly Iranian loanwords and words of a more or less obscure origin, are listed in appendices.

Metaphysics of a Northwestern Amazonian People

The societies of the Vaupés region are now among the most documented indigenous cultures of the New World, in part because they are thought to resemble earlier civilizations lost during initial colonial conflict. Here at last is the eagerly awaited publication of a posthumous work by the man widely regarded as the preeminent authority on Vaupés Amazonian societies. Cubeo Hehénewa Religious Thought will be the definitive account of the religious worldview of a significant Amazonian culture. Cubeo religious thought incorporates ideas about the nature of the cosmos, society, and human life; the individual's orientation to the world; the use of hallucinogenic substances; and a New World metaphysics. This volume was substantially completed before Irving Goldman's death, but Peter Wilson has edited it for publication, providing a thorough introduction to Goldman's work. Stephen Hugh-Jones has contributed an afterword, setting the work in the context of contemporary Vaupés ethnography.
