PaGaian Cosmology

Re-inventing Earth-based Goddess Religion

Author: Glenys Livingstone

PaGaian Cosmology brings together a religious practice of seasonal ritual based in a contemporary scientific sense of the cosmos and female imagery for the Sacred. The author situates this original synthesis in her context of being female and white European transplanted to the Southern Hemisphere. Her sense of alienation from her place, which is personal, cultural and cosmic, fires a cosmology that re-stories Goddess metaphor of Virgin-Mother-Crone as a pattern of Creativity, which unfolds the cosmos, manifests in Earth's life, and may be known intimately. PaGaian Cosmology is an ecospirituality grounded in indigenous Western religious celebration of the Earth-Sun annual cycle. By linking to story of the unfolding universe this practice can be deepened, and a sense of the Triple Goddess-central to the cycle and known in ancient cultures-developed as a dynamic innate to all being. The ritual scripts and the process of ritual events presented here, may be a journey into self-knowledge through personal, communal and ecological story: the self to be known is one that is integral with place. PaGaian Cosmology may be used as a resource for individuals or groups seeking new forms of devotional expression and an Earth-based pathway to wisdom within.

According to legend, the Kamasutra was created by the Indian god Shiva who, overwhelmed by the joys of sexual experience, wrote a servant a treatise on erotic art. Inspired by the original Kamasutra, this deck is meant to aid seekers in their own quest for enlightenment through the senses. Publisher Review: I feel I have to start this review by stating that this deck is filled with very explicit illustrations of couples involved in sexual relations. If that alone is a "deal breaker," you have no reason to continue with this review. Next, I'd like to look at the source text for this deck, the Kama Sutra. Many people talk of this book as having great spiritual value. They approach it as a key Tantric (a small part of Tantra involves spiritualized sexuality) text. Neither concept it true. It is far closer to what might be called a rule book for marriage. It is composed of seven sections, of which sections 3–6 are about how to get a wife, how a chief wife should act, how other wives should act and advice on how to become a courtesan. Section seven is about how to attract a partner and includes the closest thing to instructions on sexual magick found in the entire book. Section one, the introduction, introduces various Vedic spiritual concepts and may simply be slapped onto the book in order to give it some legitimacy. Indeed, at least one historian claims the entire book was a collection of other texts. The remaining section is the part of the book that is most famous. It includes numerous legalistic and dogmatic concepts on how to have sexual relations, some of which require a great deal of physical strength and agility. It also describes 64 types of sexual acts. I vividly remember getting a copy of this book when I was about 14 years old on a vacation in Palm Springs. I eagerly tried reading it and no matter how much I skipped, I couldn't help but find it stultifying, dated, and silly. That brings us to an overview of the art in this deck. As described in the deck attributes below, the Art School Vijai & Ram of Rajastan have done an absolutely magnificent job of producing sexually explicit modern art in the style and character of of 17th and 18th century Indian art (heavily influenced by Mughal-style art) often found in published editions of the Kama Sutra. You'll instantly recognize the style. . . read more.

The Value of Everything

Making and Taking in the Global Economy

Author: Mariana Mazzucato

Publisher: PublicAffairs

ISBN: 1610396758

Category: Business & Economics

Page: 384

Modern economies reward activities that extract value rather than create it. This must change to ensure a capitalism that works for us all. Longlisted for the FT & McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award A scathing indictment of our current global financial system, The Value of Everything rigorously scrutinizes the way in which economic value has been accounted and reveals how economic theory has failed to clearly delineate the difference between value creation and value extraction. Mariana Mazzucato argues that the increasingly blurry distinction between the two categories has allowed certain actors in the economy to portray themselves as value creators, while in reality they are just moving around existing value or, even worse, destroying it. The book uses case studies-from Silicon Valley to the financial sector to big pharma-to show how the foggy notions of value create confusion between rents and profits, reward extractors and creators, and distort the measurements of growth and GDP. In the process, innovation suffers and inequality rises. The lesson here is urgent and sobering: to rescue our economy from the next inevitable crisis and to foster long-term economic growth, we will need to rethink capitalism, rethink the role of public policy and the importance of the public sector, and redefine how we measure value in our society.

Every Other Moment

A Manual on Choosing Happiness

Author: Jonathan Kis-Lev

ISBN: 9781540719997

Page: 138

Are you tired of living in the past or CONSTANTLY worrying about the future? This was Jonathan Kis-Lev's realization about his own life: "I was constantly making to-do lists in my mind, forgetting to enjoy this very moment. At work, I would think about my family. At home, I would think of work. This was far from ideal, and I began searching ancient writings to find out what they say about happiness and inner peace." What Kis-Lev, a 31 year old artist from Israel, found is rather simple: living in the now is the truest path to happiness. And while this message may not seem stunningly original or fresh, Kis-Lev's clear writing, supportive voice, and enthusiasm make this an excellent manual for anyone who's ever wondered how exactly one can achieve happiness. In the first chapters, Kis-Lev introduces readers to happiness and its enemy, our mind. He awakens readers to their role as a creator of pain and pleasure and shows them how to have a pain-free identity by living fully in the present. The journey is thrilling, and along the way, the author shows how to connect to the joy and happiness we can find around us all the time. Drawing on biblical writings, most notably the Book of Psalms, as well as great teachers throughout history such as Aristotle and Hecato, Meister Eckhart, Rumi, and more, Jonathan presents a simple yet powerful tool to achieve a state of happiness. In what he calls the "Find Pleasure" game, readers can find the answer they have long been waiting for, to living in the moment. "Jonathan Kis-Lev's message is simple: living in the now is the truest path to happiness. And while this message may not seem stunningly original or fresh, Kis-Lev's clear writing, supportive voice, and enthusiasm make this an excellent manual for anyone who's ever wondered how exactly one can achieve happiness." -Jo Levi, The Reviewer "Kis-Lev is a world-class teacher, able to explain complicated concepts in concrete language. Within a chapter of reading this book, readers are already holding the world in a different container--more conscious of how thoughts and emotions get in the way of their ability to live in genuine happiness and delight." -Tova Hansel, author and speaker "Kis-Lev packs a lot of information and inspirational ideas into Every Other Moment." Thankfully, the chapters are short, allowing the readers to close the book and mull over what they just read. As a result, this book reads like the highly acclaimed A Course in Miracles, just much simpler." -Amy Levine, coach and speaker "Every Other Moment" is one of the best books about happiness to come along in years. Every sentence rings with truth and power. The power lies in the honesty and authenticity of the author, telling of his own struggles with finding happiness. Brilliant!" -Miriam Cohen, "This Week" "Fascinating. . . Something about this reading just seems profoundly important, whether one agrees with the material or not, and listeners' attention is sure to be captured within seconds of reading Kis-Lev's take on the universe in which we live." -Ellie Goldman, CEO, The Goldman Group "This book is a wake-up call for all of us, who are way too stuck in our heads and forget to live life as a child does. It helps us to distance ourselves from our egos . . . and to open ourselves to a higher self. . . . It helps us to stop creating our own suffering and obsessing over the past and what the future might be, and to put ourselves in the now." -Yolanda Rhymes, The Insider "In Every Other Moment Jonathan Kis-Lev exposes self-limiting beliefs and presents a simple yet effective code of personal conduct learned from the great masters who lived throughout history. Drawing on the teachers such as Aristotle and Hecato, Meister Eckhart, Rumi, and the Book of Psalms, Jonathan presents a simple yet powerful tool to achieve a state of happiness." -Joanne Lichtenshtein, President, "Artists for Peace"

The Fantastic Photo Art of the Sensual Goddess Tarot Deck

Author: Frederick J. Potter

Publisher: Createspace Independent Pub

ISBN: 9781479109739

Category: Photography

Page: 88

This book features the photo art of the Sensual Goddess Tarot deck created by Frederick and Oleanna Potter. It is primarily designed to be an art book for collectors of fantasy and sensual photo art. However, included in this book are also descriptions of each card and their meanings as well as a section on how to read the cards with a special description of the "Venus Spread" which was designed specifically for this deck. And so one could also consider this book to be a companion piece for those who already own the Sensual Goddess Tarot Deck. As this is an art book, if you are looking for a book to teach you how to read Tarot cards or other information on the Tarot, then it would be recommended that you acquire one or more of the many fine works that are currently available by qualified authors. The artwork in this book is the product of almost three years of painstaking production and involved the construction of props and costumes, photorealistic 3D environments, thousands of model photography frames taken and extensive post production work. This deck is a beautiful addition to the Tarot genre and there is no other deck like this in the world. Frederick Potter is a world renown photo artist who has had his work appear in numerous publications, web sites, art galleries and television specials. He is considered by many to be one of the world's foremost experts on photo image manipulation. He has authored the seminal book "RAW SKIN - Studio Edition" which describes many of the techniques used to create the images you see in this book and has taught at Mount Royal College as well as the Alberta College of Art in Calgary. He currently owns and operates the glamour photo studio "Editions by Frederick" in Calgary. Oleanna Potter is Frederick's wife, muse and the subject of most of the images created for this Tarot deck. Her spiritual experiences, background and history that led her to meet and marry Frederick were significant factors in the decision to create this Tarot deck. The story of this journey is outlined in the introduction to this book. In all aspects of the concept, Oleanna is the perfect choice to portray the archetype of the Sensual Goddess. This book will undoubtably become a collectors piece, as will the cards themselves. Some may choose too simply purchase the actual deck, however for those who want a greater appreciation of the art itself, this book provides large color reproductions of each card and will be a valuable addition to the collection of any serious aficionado of sensual fine art. The Tarot finds its roots in mediaeval, celtic, pagan and other ancient traditions that celebrate the goddess archetype. Like the many famous paintings, sculptures and drawings from the past great masters who depicted the many forms of goddesses, these illustrations also contain artistic nudity and is intended for adults.
